Welcome to the Chelys website!
The members of Chelys met whilst studying at Trinity College of Music, London. The word 'Chelys' is derived from the ancient Greeks, where it referred to a bowed lyre, said to have been invented by the god Hermes. It was also used on the title page of the treatise by English violist and theorist Christoper Simpson, The Division Viol of 1665.
